# Email configuration

> See every email Stockful sends on your behalf, and send purchase orders, reports and alerts from your own domain.

Stockful sends emails for you: purchase orders to your suppliers, and reports and alert digests to the people you choose. **Email configuration** shows what has been sent, and lets you send it all from your own domain.

Go to **Settings**, then under the **App** section click **Email configuration**.

## Activity

The top of the page shows how many emails went out in the last 30 days:

* **Purchase order emails** - orders sent to suppliers
* **Report emails** - scheduled and on-demand reports, counted per recipient
* **Alert digests** - one per digest sent

Below that, **Recent emails** lists each send with when it went out, its type, the purchase order subject, report name or alert name, and who it went to. Alert digests don't list recipients, because those are read from the alert at the moment it sends.

## Send from your own domain

By default these emails come from a Stockful address. Connect your own domain and they come from addresses like `purchasing@yourstore.com` instead, so your suppliers and team see your business on every email, and your orders are far less likely to be treated as spam.

Sending from your own domain costs **\$15 a month**. You are only charged once your domain is verified. See [Billing](#billing) below.

<Note>
  You need a domain your business owns. Addresses at gmail.com, outlook.com, hotmail.com, icloud.com and similar can't be used, because nobody can add DNS records to them.
</Note>

### Connect your domain

1. Click **Connect domain**.
2. Enter your domain, for example `yourstore.com`, and confirm.
3. Stockful shows the DNS records to add. Copy each **Name** and **Value** (and **Priority** for the MX record) into the DNS settings wherever your domain is managed, such as GoDaddy, Cloudflare or Squarespace.
4. Click **Check now**.

DNS changes usually show up within a few minutes, but can take a few hours. If the domain still says **Waiting for DNS**, check again later. Stockful also checks every day, so a domain that verifies while you are away is picked up automatically. If it still isn't verified a day after you connected it, Stockful emails you a reminder listing the records that are missing, and once more after three days.

Some DNS providers add your domain to the end of a value unless it ends with a full stop, so `send.forge.rmta.net` becomes `send.forge.rmta.net.yourstore.com`. Stockful spots this and tells you on the record. Edit the record and enter the value with a full stop at the end, for example `send.forge.rmta.net.`

<Tip>
  On Cloudflare, set any CNAME record to **DNS only** (grey cloud). A proxied record can't be seen, so the domain won't verify.
</Tip>

The records go on a dedicated subdomain and a signing key, so they don't touch your existing email, website or other DNS settings.

### Choose your sender addresses

Once the domain is verified, set the address each type of email comes from:

* **Purchase orders** - defaults to `purchasing@`
* **Reports** - defaults to `reports@`
* **Alerts and restock notices** - defaults to `alerts@`

Leave one blank to keep that type on a Stockful address. Use addresses you are happy for people to see; supplier replies still go to the **Reply-to address** in [Purchasing settings](/user-guide/purchasing/settings#who-the-email-comes-from).

Emails sent from your domain use your company name as the sender name. For purchase orders, the **Sender name** in Purchasing settings still applies if you have set one.

### If your domain stops working

If the DNS records are removed or changed, the domain shows **Needs attention** and emails go out from a Stockful address until the records are back, so nothing is left unsent. A purchase order sent this way says so on its timeline. Put the records back and click **Check now**.

### Disconnect

Click **Disconnect** to go back to Stockful addresses. You can connect a different domain afterwards. Reconnecting the same domain later may mean adding the DNS records again.

## Billing

* \$15 a month, added to your Stockful bill as a usage charge.
* The first charge is made when your domain is verified, then once each billing month while it stays connected.
* It isn't prorated. Disconnecting partway through a month doesn't refund that month, and reconnecting the same domain in the same month isn't charged again. Connecting a different domain in the same month is a new charge.
* If you are on a free trial, charges start with your first paid month.
